The New Economy Week has been established as October 12-18 and the goal is to have people create public-facing events that illuminate the opportunity of a new economy. The institution behind this initiative, the New Economics Institute, hosted a conference in July (reRoute conference: http://neweconomy.net/reroute) of students across the US and Canada who are committed to creating a new just an sustainable economy comprised of co-operatives and social enterprises. The Institute is also known for their annual E. F. Schumacher Lectures, the archive of which can be found here: http://neweconomy.net/publications.
About the New Economy Week: “Any individual, group, or organization that believes the system is structurally broken and that we must build an economy that prioritizes people, place, and the planet is invited to participate in New Economy Week.”
Although this initiative is mainly targeting student groups in the US, this initiative is open to grow. The week coincides directly with Co-op Week in Canada and Coop Month in the US.
