Economic Revitalization Conference

Registration for the 2014 Economic Revitalization Conference is now open. This year’s theme, Mapping the Future: Technology, People & Rural Prosperity looks at how rural communities can leverage innovation and human capacity to create economic vitality.

Conference Details:
Tuesday April 8, 2014
Holiday Inn Kingston Waterfront Hotel
2 Princess Street, Kingston, ON

Partners’ Gala Dinner: 6-9pm
As the final forum for the Centre’s three-year Research Partnerships project, the conference draws together five universities and over 40 rural development partners to discuss priority economic development issues for rural Canada.

Conference Highlights:
• Our keynote speaker, Bo Beaulieu, will speak on “Stronger Economies Together.” Dr. Beaulieu brings over 35 years’ experience in rural development. As a researcher, he has been a front runner in finding innovative ways to connect communities and universities. He is passionate about human and social capital, the educational success of rural youth, and civic engagement. He will share lessons learned from the Stronger Economies Together initiative, which has engaged universities and colleges in rural development blueprints and strategies.

• As a special offer to conference participants, the Monieson Centre’s recent book publication – Revitalizing Rural Economies: A Guide for Practitioners – will be available at a conference-discounted advance price of $25 and can be purchased online at the time of registration. We hope you’ll take advantage of this valuable resource.

• Interactive presentations with researchers and practitioners will explore topics including innovation in the agri-food sector, the impact of broadband on rural development, heritage and culture in rural economies, the emergence of the green economy, and approaches to supporting entrepreneurs.
