Co-operative Studies Track at Atlantic Schools of Business Conference – Sept 25th – 27th

Co-operative Studies Research Track will be held at the Annual Atlantic Schools of Business Conference hosted by the University of New Brunswick, located in Fredericton. The conference will occur from September 25th through the 27th, 2015. It is bilingual so both French and English submissions are highly encouraged. The submission deadline for the conference is August 7th, 2015 and you will be notified of your submission’s acceptance status by August 28th, 2015.

The Co-operative Studies Research Track is open to all areas of cooperative research such as co-ops in critical management; environmental and social reporting; co-op management and ethics; co-op entrepreneurship; governance for co-ops, key performance indicators, financial reporting and accounting, performance measurement and analysis; financial management; tax accounting; public responsibility and ethics; technology innovation management; and knowledge management. The track is also open to papers that are in the development stage. Masters and PhD students are encouraged to submit papers. They have a limited amount of funding available to assist with student travel. Please refer to the Atlantic Schools of Business website for further information.

ASB is dedicated to fostering a supportive environment, whether it is by helping scholars polish developed manuscripts or helping to improve ideas in progress. Submissions at multiple stages of development are encouraged, including full papers to be considered for presentation and conference proceedings, papers and concepts in process that are suitable for presentation, and symposia that combine various streams of thought to engage and inform debate.

The scientific program committee of the Joint International Conference on Agribusiness and Cooperatives is still accepting abstracts for presentation in the 7th International Conference on Agribusiness Economics and Management (ICAEM2015) and/or in the 2nd International Conference on Cooperatives (ICOOP2015). The Community Economic Development Institute of the Shannon School of Business is dedicated to advancing community capacity in economic development. Building on the popularity of our 2011 and 2013 conferences, where we had over 200 attendees, we are organizing another multidisciplinary conference focused on “Community Innovation & Social Enterprise”.

Community-based ventures are a strong part of the Canadian economy for more than a century and recent innovative practices have made the social enterprise sector a hot topic. The conference brings together practitioners, researchers, and community organizations, from home and afar, to discuss current practices, challenges, and innovations in advancing social entrepreneurship and improving community livelihoods.

The conference includes the following themes:

You are invited to submit a proposal for a presentation, panel, or roundtable discussion.  We also accept general proposals which may not fit the categories listed above.  There will be no formal conference proceedings published.

CASC Call for Papers – Deadline January 16, 2015

Edited: the deadline has been extended until Monday, January 26th. 

This is a friendly reminder that the call for papers for the Canadian Association for Studies in Co-operation (CASC) conference closes next Friday, January 16th. The conference will be held June 2nd-4th in Ottawa.

The call details are available in both English and en Français.

As well this year, CASC is soliciting proposals for case studies in its Call for Papers.  Prize money in the amount of $5000 has been secured for the best cases thanks to the Measuring Co-operative Difference Research Network (MCDRN) through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council’s Community University Research Alliance (CURA).

In addition, CASC will be hosting a workshop on case study competitions at the conference, with support from the Centre for the Study of Co-operatives at the University of Saskatchewan. For more details please visit the CASC website.

Call for Papers for the European Research Committee’s Conference

First call for papers for the European Research Committee’s conference “Future of the Co-operative Model: Creativity, Innovation, & Research” to take place in Paris, France from 27-30 May 2015.

Conference aim

Crisis highlighted that innovation, creativity on products, production process, governance and financing are essential elements of the productive organization to face problems and grow up. Cooperatives and social economy organizations have been in many occasions creative and innovative to all functional stages for the benefit of the members and the socio economic environment that they are engaged. The broad interpretation of cooperative principles gives cooperatives flexibility in designing their governance and financial structures, which are extremely efficient in the pursuit of global strategies. In such activity (agriculture, finance, heath, education…), cooperatives and mutual successfully innovate to adapt the social and economic crisis. What are their advantages and weaknesses?

Proposals focusing on the innovation and creativity solutions of cooperatives would be particularly welcomed. General themes and specific sessions are proposed for selected papers and poster sessions.

Papers Submission for the International Interdisciplinary Conference on Cooperativism in the 21st Century Europe, Slovakia

Visions 4 a Cooperative Future: Cooperativism for the 21st Century Europe & Beyond is an international interdisciplinary conference on cooperativism that will be help December 4-6, 2014 in Bratislava, Slovakia. The event is organized by INECON in conjunction the C-BIRD project and the European Alternatives and International Young Professionals Foundation.

The aim of the conference is to address issues related to the status and role of cooperatives and social enterprises in social and economic development in the V4 countries – Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland within a broader European context (South-Eastern and Western Europe) both from the point of view of a historical and theoretical reflection and from practical perspectives.

The Conference also aims to:

  • bring together academics, policy makers and practitioners to present research, discuss current knowledge and exchange experiences related to cooperative, social and solidarity economy and various forms of cooperative action
  • promote networking among academics and practitioners and further build a community of experts and interested parties for ongoing collaboration, dialogue and research on cooperative, social and solidarity economy and various forms of cooperative action in Europe and beyond

Papers can address, but are not limited to, the following areas:

  • the history of the cooperative movement and social and solidarity economy development and the current relevancy and standing of cooperatives in the economies of the V4 and other European countries

Cooperativismo & Desarrollo: Journal of Social Economics and Cooperative Studies

The Cooperativismo & Desarrollo – C&D community as recently re-engineered the editorial strategy and policies to make C&D an international reference on the subject. C&D are hoping to promote and increase the visibility and reputation of the journal on bibliographic and citation databases (ISI and Scopus), other different indexation systems, peer-reviewed journals and other open access systems.

C&D, the Journal of Social Economics and Cooperative Studies, is launching an open call for papers to world-wide researchers on Social Economy, Solidarity Economy and Cooperation. Besides Spanish, the journal is going to publish papers originally written in English or Portuguese. ICA call for papers for CCR due August 31

International Co-operative Alliance – Committee on Co-operative Research is calling for papers for a special Issue entitled: “Young and emerging scholars’ research in co-operative studies.”

For this occasion, the International Cooperative Alliance Committee on Co-operative Research (CCR) invites new and upcoming scholars – currently studying or within two years after graduation – in co-operative studies and/or co-operative business to submit their research papers to be considered for publication in the peer-reviewed 2014 edition of the Review of International Cooperation dedicated to young scholars. Papers must present new research and cannot be already published in academic journals or working papers. Co-authored papers will be accepted.

This special issue of the Review will showcase multi-disciplinary research of the emerging scholars in co-operative enterprises and co-operative studies more generally.

Best Paper Awards: Papers accepted for publication in EITHER the Special edition of the Journal of Cooperative Management and Organization OR the Review of International Cooperation will be reviewed, and the top three papers will be awarded prizes as follows:

  • 1st Place 500 Euros
  • 2nd Place 300 Euros
  • 3rd Place 200 Euros
